Terms and Conditions of Art Competition

1. The Competition

1.1 Entrants are invited to design and submit a "Beast of Basingstoke" (“Submission”) for a chance to win a prize.

1.2 The Competition is operated and promoted by Scratch Built Theatre  CIC, registered at Proteus Creation Space, Council Road, Basingstoke, RG21 3DH (“the Promoter”).

1.3 Entry into this Competition constitutes your acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.

2. The Submission

2.1 Submissions may be visual artwork or a written description.

• Visual designs must be bold for scanning purposes.

• Written submissions must be eligible and describe the beast that has been designed.

• Submissions must be original and not infringe on any third-party copyrights or intellectual property.

2.2 Once submitted, Artwork remains the property of Scratch Built Theatre CIC and cannot be returned.

3. Eligibility

3.1 Open to UK residents. Entry is free.

3.2 Applicants under 18 must obtain consent from a parent or legal guardian. The guardian agrees to these Terms on the entrant’s behalf.

3.3 Limit of one entry per person.

4. How to Enter

4.1 The Competition runs from 13th May to 30 May 2026 (the "Closing Date").

4.2 Entries must be received by the Closing Date via:

• Post/Hand Delivery: Scratch Built Theatre CIC, Proteus Creation Space, Council Road, Basingstoke, RG21 3DH.

• Drop-off: The post box in The Creative Emporium, Festival Place.

4.3 The Promoter is not responsible for entries lost, delayed, or damaged in transit.

5. Data Protection & Future Contact (GDPR)

5.1 Data Controller: Scratch Built CIC.

5.2 Usage: We collect the entrant's name, age (if under 18), and email address to administer the competition and contact winners.

5.3 Future Projects: If you explicitly "opt-in" on your entry form, Scratch Built CIC will retain your email address to contact you about future creative projects and events. You may withdraw this consent at any time by emailing us or clicking 'unsubscribe' in any digital communication.

5.4 Transparency: Personal data is processed in accordance with the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. We will not share your contact details with third parties for marketing purposes without your express consent.

6. Intellectual Property Rights

6.1 By entering, you grant Scratch Built CIC a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, display, and reproduce your Artwork.

6.2 This includes the right to display artwork on the Scratch Built website, and social media, Basingstoke Festival, and Love Basingstoke websites/social media, and to commission third parties to reproduce the artwork as physical puppets or 3D-printed models.

7. Prizes and Judging

7.1 Winner: Design turned into a puppet for the Parade of the Mythical Beasts (19 June 2026) plus a 3D-printed version of the design.

7.2 Runners-up (2): A 3D-printed version of their design.

7.3 Winners will be selected by 1 June 2026. Judges' decisions are final.

7.4 Prizes are non-transferable; no cash alternative is available.

8. Winners

8.1 Winners will be contacted via the email address provided on the entry form within one week of the Closing Date.

8.2 The Promoter reserves the right to publish the winner’s name and artwork for promotional purposes, subject to Data Protection legislation.

9. General

9.1 Scratch Built CIC reserves the right to amend or cancel the competition if necessary.

9.2 Failure to comply with these terms may result in disqualification.
